Fall – What great time to be at the beach!  Warm/hot days with less humidity, cool evenings.   A good time for fishing along the surf, or if you’re like my wife, relax on the beach with a good book.  The crowds have gone, and there’s lots of beach strand to enjoy!

The vacationers came this year, lined up all the way back to Old Georgetown Road and both directions on Beach Drive going to Ocean Isle Beach.   Sunset Beach traffic was heavy also, and regardless of the high gas prices, they still came to the beaches they love to gather on with family and friends!  Para sailing seemed to be a BIG hit this year with visitors.  Folks come to the beach with deep dark tans while others are almost white as paper – until the second day – “boiled lobster!”   Guess we’ve all been there before…

The Sunset Beach hi-rise bridge construction continues to move along.  I update my webpage ( www.yourbeachcottage.com ) with pictures as it progresses.

The Oyster Festival is just about here.  Last year approximately 45,000 people enjoyed the two day event – lots of great food, including oysters, fun for the kids, bands, something for everyone.

Mark your calendar for October 18 and 19 this year.

Fishing Report:  The month of September, not so good.  With Hurricane Hanna and the tropical storm later in the month, fishing wasn’t too good.  In shore, a couple of Red’s and some Grouper caught.  Near shore, a few Spanish, but the pogies were thick.  Mostly, people reported that the water near the shore was nasty. On the funny side of life… Little Johnny’s kindergarten class was on a field trip to their local police station where they saw pictures tacked to a bulletin board of the 10 most wanted criminals.  One of the youngsters pointed to a picture and asked if it really was the photo of a wanted person.  “Yes,” said the policeman.  “We really want to capture him, too.”  Johnny thought, then said, “Then why didn’t you keep him you took this picture?”

Golf Law #1  Your best round of golf will be followed almost immediately by your worst round ever.  The probability of the latter increases with the number of people you tell about the former.

Golf Law #2  Brand new golf balls are water-magnetic.  Though this cannot be proven in the lab, it is a known fact that the more expensive the golf ball, the greater its attraction to water.

Golf Law #3  The higher a golfer’s handicap, the more qualified he deems himself as an instructor.

Golf Law #4  Golf balls from the same “sleeve” tend to follow one another, particularly out of bounds or into the water (See Law 2)
